The MAREYN method · wardrobe
The Sweater Care System
A care-label-first system for washing, drying, de-pilling and storing sweaters so they keep their shape and stay wearable longer.
Build this system ↓
The decision: Sweaters are often damaged by one-size-fits-all washing, wet hanging, aggressive de-pilling or storage before they are clean and fully dry.
Read the label first, use the gentlest suitable wash and de-pilling method, dry to protect shape, then store only clean and fully dry knits.

A few thoughtful decisions
Build the system
Choose the pieces that suit you. Your choices stay in this browser when you save them.
01 · Required
Check Label
Let the garment’s care instructions determine every later step.
Read the care label before adding water, heat, detergent or friction. Note the fiber content, washing method, drying instruction and warnings. When instructions are unclear or the knit is valuable, embellished or structurally delicate, choose professional care instead of experimenting.
We’re refreshing our recommendations for this role. Use a suitable piece you already own, or check back for product options.
02 · Required · Choose any that fit
Wash
Clean with the least aggressive method the label allows.
Treat visible marks first using a method compatible with the fiber. Hand-wash or machine-wash only when the label permits it. A mesh bag can reduce friction in a permitted machine cycle, but it never makes a machine-unsafe sweater safe.
03 · Required
Dry
Remove excess water gently, reshape and dry according to the label.
Do not wring. When appropriate, press water out with a clean towel, return the sweater to its intended dimensions and dry it flat if the label directs. Hanging a wet heavy knit can distort shoulders and length. Use a dryer only when the care label permits it.
04 · Required
De-Pill
Remove surface pills only after the clean sweater is fully dry.
Lay the sweater flat, support the fabric and test an inconspicuous area. Use light pressure and short passes, staying away from seams, loose yarns, embroidery and damaged areas. Stop if the tool catches or thins the surface.
05 · Required · Choose any that fit
Store
Fold clean, fully dry sweaters where they remain visible and protected.
Fold heavier sweaters rather than hanging them for long periods. Use existing drawers or shelves first. For seasonal storage, choose a clean container that fits the measured space and avoid crushing knits. Cedar is optional and must be used according to its instructions; it does not replace cleaning and dry storage.

Check label → wash → dry → de-pill → store. The garment label decides the safe route; tools support that route rather than replacing it.
